The Santa Lucia Conservancy Seeks Restoration Ecologist/Land Manager
The Santa Lucia Conservancy in Carmel, California, is seeking an experienced full-time natural lands manager with a strong foundation in ecological science / habitat restoration. A key member of a small, high-energy and multidisciplinary team, the restoration ecologist will guide and implement conservation actions to sustain and restore diverse native habitat within a rugged 20,000 acre privately protected preserve. Working in a collaborative decision-making environment, the successful candidate will bring outstanding organizational and communications skills and a passion for innovative science-guided habitat conservation. Also essential is the ability to effectively plan, execute, and assess the progress of conservation projects both independently and in a team setting. Demonstrating and/or developing expertise in using livestock grazing and prescribed fire for conservation purposes is also highly desirable.
This position requires broad field-based skills including invasive weed management and native plant identification and monitoring including use of GPS/GIS. Well-developed office skills (Microsoft Office suite, data management and analysis, report writing and presentation) are also essential. Driving and hiking in uneven terrain, operating land management equipment, and working comfortably for extended periods in rugged outdoor conditions, including occasionally lifting and carrying at least 40 pounds is required.
