Sudden Oak Death (Phytophthora ramorum) is a new forest pathogen that has recently begun impacting the moist forests of coastal California. The Santa Lucia Conservancy is working with landowners, state agencies, and scientists to learn about the disease, and to minimize the impacts on the Preserve.
2016 SOD Blitz
The Blitz will be the weekend of Saturday, April 9 through Sunday, April 10, 2016:
This weekend, we will be sampling for Sudden Oak Death on the Santa Lucia Preserve will be done by collecting symptomatic bay laurel and/or tanoak leaves from pre-tagged permanent sampling locations. These permanent sampling locations have been assigned to blitz volunteers. There is also the option for people to bring in additional samples from their properties.
The meeting will be 10:00am Saturday, April 9 in the Sports Center:
Come to the Sports Center at 10:00am if you want a quick refresher. After that, additional sampling packets will be available there all weekend. After collecting the samples and filling in the data forms, please return the samples to the Sports Center or the Gatehouse, by noon on Monday, April 11. Samples need to be kept in a cool, dry, shady location at all times.
